Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.

An important representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
