An individual who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males aged nine and 10.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities once more.

She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
